A slide-out is a feature in some RVs that allows a portion of the living area to expand outwards, creating more interior space when parked. Slide-outs are typically operated with a switch or crank handle.
RV roofs should be checked at least once if not twice per year for any cracks or separation of the roof sealant around all roof top components like vents, skylights and so on. Please note that not all RV roofs are designed to have someone walking on them. I most cases where there is not a ladder, you probably shouldn't be on the roof as it wont hold the load of a human. Contact a technician as they are trained on how to perform these tasks.
To clean your RV roof, use a mild dish washing soap like DAWN or a cleaner like SIMPLE GREEN and a soft bristles brush. A course or stiff bristle brush can ruin many of the current types of roof.
Choose the right RV toilet by considering the type of RV you have, your budget, and your personal preferences. There are many types of RV toilets available, including gravity-fed, macerating, and composting models.
According to the Department of Transportation, RV tires should be replaced every 5-7 years, regardless of how much tread is left. The rubber can deteriorate over time, increasing the risk of blowouts and accidents.
Tire pressure in all of your tires should be checked regularly if a TPMS system is not installed. Tire pressures should always be checked the morning of your departure day. This is when the tires will be at the coolest temperature and pressure will be more accurate. As the sun shines on a tire it warms the air inside the tire increasing the pressure as the tire gets warmer.
Anode rods should be checked once a year for those who use their RV part time and twice for full time RVrs. Hard water conditions will shorten the life of an anode rod.
Yes and No. Water heaters with a steel tank require an anode rod but aluminum tanks do not. Some water heater manufacturers use aluminum tanks while others use steel.
Yes. There are different options for batteries which are available in a wide range of pricing. Lithium Iron Phosphate is the best option which has a longer of discharge and longer life span but comes at a higher cost than compared to the less expensive Lead Acid, GEL or AGM type battery. Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries stay at or above 12 volts much longer than a Lead Acid, GEL or AGM battery drops below 12 volts much sooner. The 12 volt systems in RVs require 12 or above to operate correctly.
